A boho wedding on a budget comes down to three cheap things done in bulk: dried grasses, natural fabric and lots of warm light. With our guides, the full decor for 100 guests (tables, arch, bouquet, crown, photo booth and favors) comes to about $512, against roughly $1,225 to buy the same pieces ready-made.

Boho is one of the friendliest styles for a small budget. It is meant to look a little loose and collected, so nothing has to match perfectly, and the main materials are dried, which means you can make them weeks ahead.

What makes a wedding look boho

You do not need every item on this list. Pick three or four and repeat them through the whole day.

  • Earthy colours. Cream, oatmeal, sand, terracotta, rust and dusty sage. Keep white for the dress and use warmer shades everywhere else.
  • Soft, natural textures. Cotton gauze, linen, jute, rattan, seagrass and wood. Frayed edges are fine. They are part of the look.
  • Dried flowers and grasses. Pampas grass is the classic, together with bunny tails, dried palm leaves and bleached ferns. They do not need water and they do not wilt.
  • Macrame. One wall hanging behind the cake table or a small piece tied to the arch is enough. A full macrame backdrop takes many evenings of knotting, so borrow or buy one secondhand if you want it big.
  • Rugs and cushions. Layered rugs on grass or a barn floor turn a corner into a lounge. Floor cushions and a couple of poufs do the rest.
  • Candles and warm light. Lots of small lights at different heights, rather than one bright lamp. String lights, lanterns and glowing jars all count.

Where boho is cheap

Dried grass instead of fresh flowers. Our pampas grass centerpieces use three bud vases, six plumes and fifteen bunny tails per table for $4.90. For 13 tables that is $63.70, against $234 for similar ready-made sets. Paperlust notes that non-floral centerpieces usually cost 30 to 50 percent less than fresh-flower ones, and lists standard florist centerpieces at $75 to $150 per table (Paperlust).

Gauze on the tables. A cheesecloth table runner costs $2.95 when you cut it from a bolt, and a short soak in black tea turns it oatmeal coloured. That one step does more for the boho feel than any tablecloth rental.

Battery lights in jars. Two fairy light jars per table cost $1.65 each and can sit right next to dried grass, which a real flame should not.

Faux and dried for the bride. A faux flower bridal bouquet costs $30.06 to make and can be finished a month early. A fresh baby's breath flower crown costs $12.98, where a florist charges about $78.

Where couples overspend

Lounge furniture. Rented lounge sets are the big boho splurge. One US rental company lists a booth and ottoman set for 16 people from $1,075, and that is the item price only, with delivery from $65 plus fees on top (Sky High Party Rentals). A few rugs and floor cushions borrowed from friends give guests a place to sit for close to nothing.

Styled arches and backdrops. Many stylists sell a ready dressed arch with pampas, macrame and fabric as a package. A copper pipe wedding arch costs $215.67 to build, against about $325 to rent one, and you keep the frame. Dress it with a chiffon drape and a few pampas plumes left over from the tables.

Too many small extras. Signs, neon, dreamcatchers, a different trinket on every chair. Each item is cheap, but twenty of them add up fast and the room starts to look busy. Boho works best with fewer things in larger groups.

For scale, the average US wedding cost $33,000 in 2024, according to The Knot's 2025 Real Weddings Study (FOX 5 / The Knot). Decor is one of the easiest places to cut that number without guests noticing.

Sample boho decor budget for 100 guests

This plan uses 13 tables of 8 guests and the numbers from our own guides, with prices checked on 26 October 2026. "Ready-made" means buying a similar finished item online or renting it.

Item DIY cost Ready-made You save Time
Pampas centerpieces, 13 tables $63.70 $234.00 $170.30 3.3 h
Cheesecloth runners, 13 $38.35 $90.87 $52.52 3.3 h
Fairy light jars, 25 $41.25 $89.50 $48.25 2.5 h
Copper pipe arch $215.67 $325.00 $109.33 2 h
Flower crown $12.98 $78.00 $65.02 1 h
Faux bridal bouquet $30.06 $39.99 $9.93 1 h
Photo booth backdrop $98.44 $129.00 $30.56 1 h
Seed packet favors, 100 $12.00 $239.00 $227.00 3.3 h
Total $512.45 $1,225.36 $712.91 17.4 h

A few honest notes on the table:

  • The favors and centerpieces save the most. Together they keep almost $400 in your pocket. Start there if your time is limited.
  • The bouquet barely pays off. It saves under $10. Make it if you enjoy it, otherwise just buy one.
  • The arch is the biggest single cost. If your venue already has an arbor, a pergola or a nice tree, skip it and spend the $215 elsewhere.
  • The photo booth doubles as decor. Its sheer white curtains and seagrass prop basket fit the boho look, so you can place it where guests see it all evening.

Venue tips for a boho wedding

The right venue does half the decorating for you, so look for one that already has the textures you want.

  • Choose natural backdrops. Barns, orchards, vineyards, a beach, a greenhouse or a garden with old trees need very little added. A plain hotel ballroom needs much more fabric and greenery to feel warm.
  • Ask what is in storage. Many rustic venues own rugs, lanterns, wooden crates or a basic arch. Using theirs costs nothing.
  • Check the rules on flames. Dried grass and open flames are a bad pair, and many venues ban open candles anyway. Plan for LED lights from the start.
  • Think about wind outdoors. Pampas plumes shed in a breeze and light vases tip over. Add a small stone to the bottom of each bud vase and keep the arch drape tied at two points.
  • Book off-peak. A Friday, a Sunday or a date in the cooler months is often cheaper, and the earthy colours of boho suit autumn especially well.

3 boho mistakes to avoid

1. Real candles next to pampas. Dried grass catches fire easily. Keep open flames away from every dried arrangement, or use battery lights only. The fairy light jars give the same warm glow without the risk.

2. Buying everything new for the lounge. Rugs, cushions, poufs and baskets are the items people most often have at home. Ask friends and family a few months ahead, label each item with the owner's name, and you can furnish a full lounge corner without a rental bill.

3. Too many colours. Boho can tip from relaxed to messy quickly. Pick one neutral base (cream or oatmeal), one warm accent (terracotta or rust) and one green (sage or eucalyptus), and say no to everything else. Test one full table before you buy for all 13.

Start with the table pieces, since they appear in every photo of the room, then add the arch and the lounge if time and money allow.
